Whenever I poll element14 members about their interests, robotics ranks nearly at the top. Robotics has been an area of ongoing interest in the element14 Community for a long time. I only expect the interest to increase as robots and the capabilities that adaptive compute solutions offer them increase.
While hobby robots are fairly easy to build, and commonly built by our members, industrial robots are highly complex "systems of systems," spanning electrical, electronic, control, mechanical and motors, and pneumatic/hydraulic subsystems.
To aid development of robotic solutions, AMD offers the Kria KR260 Robotics Starter Kit, which includes both the Kria K26 SOM and a carrier card, containing many standard interfaces used in the development of robotic systems.
Here's a little more info about the kit:
The kit is an evaluation platform for the K26 SOM. It brings together a Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC based SOM with user selectable, robotics focused peripherals and a set of pre-built accelerated applications. The KR260 and its base K26 SOM are supported for full user customization through Vitis platforms, customizable acceleration overlays, and Vivado® tools hardware board files. The integrated combination of hardware, platform, and software provides a quick out-of-box experience for developers that can then be leveraged for product designs.

element14 Is Hosting a Webinar: Machine Vision with the Kria KR260 Robotics Starter Kit
On May 18, 2023, element14 is host a webinar. AMD Product Marketing Manager Karan Kantharia will present an introduction to the Kria KR260 Robotics Starter Kit and how it can be used to hardware accelerate your ROS 2 and machine vision designs. element14 is giving away 3 kits (~$430 Value) to the 3 attendees that ask the best questions! Click here to register for the webinar. It's certain to be worth your time and very informative.
Stay Tuned for the Roadtest of the Kria KR260 Robotics Starter Kit
I have been in discussion with AMD on offering a Kria KR260 Robotics Starter Kit Roadtest later this summer or fall. I expect that we will be offering 5 kits. This is a huge investment by AMD, as the kits are expensive. But it will give the official roadtesters an opportunity to get some hands-on experience with the kit.
