Hello all,
I have been trying to find a suitable family of connectors for my current design. I need to connect a control box to another piece of kit a couple of meters away in a factory/production environment. Factory operatives will be required to change which piece of kit that is connected to the control box from time to time, maybe average once a week. The following features are desired:-
- Carry 20 or so digital signals - highest frequencie just a few kHz - signals are all 12V sub 1A
- Right angle PCB mounting version that fits to enclosure panel and has some kind of robust quick retaining mechanism for the attached cable. (Quick meaning not fiddly screws)
- Panel mounted version to wire wrap or similar and has some kind of robust quick retaining mechanism for the attached cable. (Quick meaning not fiddly screws)
- Off the shelf 2m or so cable assemly to match, or IDC versions of connector for quick easy cable assembly build
D-Type connectors have already been ruled out due to fragility of pins and fiddly screw locking which the end users are unlikely to bother utilising properly. I'm getting some 'centronics' connectors to try but aren't so sure that the retaining clips will be robust enough.
Does anyone out there have any good ideas for this? It seems like a pretty normal requirement and like I must be missing the obvious!
many thanks,
