Smart yoga mat uses Bluetooth pressure sensors to monitor positions

The SmartMat connects to a smartphone or tablet to help users gain the perfect pose (via SmartMat)

Yoga has been making a comeback over the last few years, mainly to align root-chakras. Of course, what’s better for body & mind without the accessories needed to get there, such as bolsters, blocks and comfortable ‘smart’ mats? The answer could lie within Neyma Jahan’s SmartMat, which uses sensors to give real-time data on user’s body positions. Alas, you cannot align your chakras if your body isn’t aligned and this is where the SmartMat shines as it provides audio and visual indicators on your pose and offers micro-adjustments to correct your posture.

The mats outfitted with Bluetooth connected pressure sensors that grab data on user’s positions and takes into account the user’s gender, height and weight. The SmartMat is calibrated by simply lying on it, after which it takes measurements such as arm span and the various ratios between user’s limbs in order to give users the correct feedback. It can be set to one of three modes depending on the occasion, including In Home Private Mode (gives both audio and visual indicators), In Class Assist Mode (visual indicators only) and the ultimate Zen Mode (does nothing but record the session to analyze later).

Neyma Jahan’s SmartMat is currently being crowd-funded on Indigogo and can be had for a pledge of $297, which is a small price to pay for a perfectly aligned mind and body.
