What about light spectroscopy: http://www.avantes.com/applications/application/item/695-avaspecs-used-in-forest-fire-finders
I just saw this product today: https://www.tindie.com/products/PureEngineering/arduino-c12666ma-micro-spectrometer-/ but probably it's not in the right spectral range.
