Come on now ...  at least try.

Google the part number - first hit was Farnell who sell it, go there, download the data sheet - seems quite comprehensive.

If you have some specific questions people might be able to help - for example, the sensor doesn't need programming - so I guess you are connecting it to something that does - so you could start by telling us what that is, what you are trying to do, what you've done so far and where you are stuck.

BTW - if you really don't know at all what you are doing then talk to your college tutor - either you've not been going to lectures or they have not been teaching the right stuff - either way you need to talk.

I Want to apply a proximity sensor to the back of a hard hat for people working at heights in booms sonto notify the user when there are coming close to an obstruction over head! my partner dropped out of college and I'm afraid I don't have the relevent experience to do this project, colleges answer is google it and as I'm in my final year of Ag engineering I don't want to mess this up! I have downloaded the data sheet but I'm not sure what I am to do

I HATE college projects where you are forced to work in teams - people are so often screwed up by other team members or on other occasions people who do no work are carried by other team members.

Anyway - apart from suggesting that you have another go at your college because on face value you are not being treated very well.

For now Google "arduino proximity sharp ir" - lots of hits and some very simple tutorial stuff (beware of luckylarry.co.uk - my web browser says it will kill your computer !! (so don't go there !!))

If you apply the output of this sensor to a voltage to frequency converter which drives a transistor which in turn drives a loudspeaker, you'd get a tone that varies in frequency as you approach an object.
