Create custom scents and control fragrance playlists with this new smart air freshener

This is a “why” kind of product.

With many of our devices being smart from cars that park themselves to shoes that autolace, it seems more and more companies are looking for any excuse to make “smart products.” The latest gadget is a device that lets you control the scent of your home with your phone. Moodo is a diffusion machine that sprays fragrance in the air via four capsules filled with different scented crystals. Similar to scented candles, the crystals come in a variety of scents, like “Sandal Wood” and “Precious Spices.” Using the companion app, you can blend the scents together to create a customized scent. You can then save your creation on the app and share it with friends because why not? Or you can buy pre-set scents like cozy cottage and Gardens of Isphahan.

The capsule pockets of the Moodoo contain an electronically controlled fan system that lets the selected scents circulate throughout the room. The capsules themselves are small, look like Keurig K-Cups, and activate as soon as Moodoo is turned on. Four capsules have a lifespan of about two months if used daily. The device itself can be charge via a plug or wirelessly through a Bluetooth connection. You can even move the device from room to room. It holds a charge for about seven hours, which should fill your aroma needs.

Looking at the Moodo app looks more like looking at a musical mixing board. There are different sliders letting you control the intensity of each smell and adjust the time they go off. There’s even a shuffle mode that will subtly change the scents, which the company feels is great for parties. You can also connect Moodo to your other smart devices and set smells for certain activities, like a specific smell when you get emails or smelling a hint of vanilla when you get up in the morning. And if you want to allow other family members to access Moodo, all you have to do is invite them and prompt them to download the app on their smartphone.

Moodo is currently seeking funding on Indiegogo. If you’re looking to get one of these for yourself you can back the early bird package, which gets you the device and four capsules for $139. What will be the retail price? A whopping $1,000. That’s a huge price for a pointless gadget. Is it really that hard to grab a bottle of Febreze? Or how about lighting some scented candles? There are plenty of options out there for making your living space smell nice all which are way cheaper than the Moodo. Then again, you can’t control candles with your phone, so maybe that price is worth it to some.

They look like coffee capsules, but far less useful ; ) The web page mentions it contains four fans.. I'm guessing it is as easy as getting pot pourri in different scents, and running a small silent fan…

I want the technology that lets it charge through a Bluetooth connection enough to power fans.

The web page mentions it contains four fans.. I'm guessing it is as easy as getting pot pourri in different scents, and running a small silent fan occasionally : ) If one really wanted to have a black box rather than decorative plants and pot pourri or candles out in the open.
