Anyone can privately listen to audio using headphones without disturbing others, but what if this could be done without wearing them? Noveto Systems, an Israeli company, has developed SoundBeamer 1.0, a new speaker that beams ultrasonic audio directly into your head without using headphones. By using this device, a user could hear other sounds in the same room.
SoundBeamer 1.0 works by creating a personal sound bubble for the listener with their choice of 3D audio from a video game, movie, or album while observing other sounds. The advantage of using this device is that users can experience surround-sound without headphones or being out of touch with their surroundings.
The sound beaming technology works by using a 3D sensing module that locates and tracks the user’s ear position and transmits audio via ultrasonic waves, which create sound pockets by the ears. Users can listen to the audio in stereo or a spatial 3D mode that has a 360-degree effect. Another cool gimmick with this device is that users can program the bubble to either move with them or stay in one place.
The demonstration includes nature videos of swans on a lake, bees buzzing, and a babbling brook, where the user can hear the sounds as if they’re in the scene. Even though the sound beaming concept isn’t new, Noveto is the first to launch the technology. Noveto plans on releasing a smaller version of the SoundBeamer 1.0 speaker by December 2021.
