Safety Compliance for Test Equipment.

Former Member
Former Member over 15 years ago

Hi All,

Need some input on the safety requirements for Test Equipment.

Let's say if a benchtop DMM is certified to CSA for IEC/EN/CSA/UL 61010-1 2nd Edition, is this a worldwide standard, regardless it is from US, Europe or Asia? Will the difference in input voltages(115V or 220Vac) affect the UL standard testing?

Pls advise. Thanks!

Regards

Kevin

What was the input spec at the time of UL approval? If it was universal, then the UL should be fine for USA, ASIA and Europe. But, if it was not the case, I would expect a re-test/ partial re-test to be required.

    Hi Muhinthan,

    Thanks for the insights.

The compliance itself is stated in the datasheet, it doesn't state the input spec at the time of UL approval, how can we know from there?

    Pls advise.

    Regards

    Kevin

    Kevin,

When you say datasheet, I assume you mean the datasheet of the equipment/ manual. If it is in the datasheet and the equip can be operated in 120/ 230, then I would think the UL certification was done considering universal AC input. Can you tell me what exactly are you trying to find out? It seems to me that I don't have a clear picture of your whole situation. There fore, my answers may not be relevant to your questions.

    Thanks,

    Muhinthan

    Hi Muhinthan,

    Thanks for the advise.

Let's say we take Agilent DMM 34405A as an example, below is the link for this product with datasheet:

    http://www.home.agilent.com/agilent/product.jspx?cc=US&lc=eng&ckey=686884&nid=-536902435.536910695.00&id=686884&cmpid=20727

Input stated is 100V/120V(127V)/220V(230V)/240V, so can we say that the UL certificate for this equipment is fine for USA, Europe and Asia, in other words worldwide standard?

    Regards

    Kevin
