Home labs of electronics engineers?

Or should I say more, caves? That's what volt-nutting can bring you into:

Home lab

Most of gear was saved from scrapping by repairs. Collected stuff over last 5 years or so. DMM collection quickly grew after getting into precision DC voltage obsessions, with voltage references and such.

Total list of gear as by today:

6 x Keithley 2001 DMM (2 still need some repairs)

1 x Keithley 2002

1 x Keithley 2000 (not shown here)

1 x Keithley 2400 SMU

1 x Keithley 2510 TEC SMU

HP 4263B (LCR Meter)

HP 33120A ARB 15MHz

Tektronix CSA7404 with pair of P7380 probes  TCA-1MEGTCA-1MEG some P6245's

Tektronix TLA714 with TLA7AA4 and set of probes (P6810, 2 x P6860, some mictor adapters, etc)

EDC MV106 DC Voltage standard (+-30ppm)

Few selfmade LM399 and Linear LTZ1000 stable references

ESI DB52 decade resistor

ERSA ICON1 soldering iron

Bunch of Vishay Precision Group 0.2ppm resistors for testing/calibration.

Well I was brave enough to share my junk LAB way back so here is the new and improved version and through the door to the right is my workstation (A little messy) Yes thats a PI 2 on the desk with full…

Hi Illya, Wow, What a beautiful concentration of precision. It looks like you have a variety of projects in the works too. I have recently up graded my shop area in the basement. It is always a work in…

I'd like to see this at the Smithsonian (among a lot of other things, natch). They've recreated Ralph Baer's home workshop as an exhibition, and his original Brown Box console prototypes are there too…

These are only some of the adverts.

    They were very clever.

The previous series was when a well known backcountry type used to take the salesman (scotty) up country in one.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pyHBKX29_Q8&list=PLml0Ebe3sC5n3lRqx1m8zBeu4IWOmYGFU

Scottys revenge is a good one where he comes into town.

There is quite good and was shot down Skippers Canyon by Queenstown.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=An765S6-VHg

Those adverts were actually a pleasure to watch.

    Hi Peter!

I love the lab layout and great workspace. How are you finding those LED lights whilst working, do you use all of them lit to maximum, or do they need to be dimmed?

I'm presuming you don't get much reflected glare since they are so large and no single point source?

I'm using quite a few small lamps and do suffer from reflected glare at times, but don't have the suspended ceiling capability : (

They have literally only been up for just over 24Hrs so the jury is still out but so far, excelent

They have hangers on he back so they can be suspended on their own if needed, I did not get the dimmers as it was cheaper, probably not needed and i can add my own design in the future if I want to have the feature (Constant Current so easy to PWM)

Sound like a very conventional light setup in terms of fixings at least if you have a suspended ceiling ...

very much so, just need to be aware that there slightly smaller than 24*24  by 1/2inch so need additional care to ensure they will not fall out

The hangers also stop them falling out and smacking you on the head if you have earthquakes .....

There were lots of them that got the appropriate restraint after the Chch earthquakes.

Since thread going into DIY homebenches topic, back in Ukraine I had own 3-level benchtable as well image As apartment I rented was really small, I had to make use of vertical space effectively.

    CAD concept:

    image

    Some dimensions:

    image

Notice belly cutout on big side sections. Little touch on erogonomics, come nice support! image Custom made sheets, made to my drawings by usual furniture shop.

    image

    Aluminum extrusion

    image

Sections are fixed to extrusion shafts with bolts and angle-shaped extrusion. This brings flexibility as well, such as level of shelf can be changed any time, just unfasten bolts and shift it to new position.

    image

    image

It does not look advanced, but does it's job and sturdy enough after all is assembled.

    image

    image

Middle sections are short and support heavier loads, like rackmount servers, etc, while outside sections cannot support too much weight, but provide lots of working space.

    image

Side sections also designed big enough to fit triple monitor setup I had back then, pair of DELL 2007FP's and 3008WFP in center.

    image

Above me was storage area for parts, and Tek 2246 scope, I had back then. Computers and hardware reside in middle level in center (no chassis, bare PCB only :))

    image

Electrics come from lower level controls:

    image

    image

There was also socket area to connect appliances, behind switches.
