Home labs of electronics engineers?

tin_xdevs
tin_xdevs over 10 years ago

Or should I say more, caves? That's what volt-nutting can bring you into:

Home lab

Most of gear was saved from scrapping by repairs. Collected stuff over last 5 years or so. DMM collection quickly grew after getting into precision DC voltage obsessions, with voltage references and such.

Total list of gear as by today:

6 x Keithley 2001 DMM (2 still need some repairs)

1 x Keithley 2002

1 x Keithley 2000 (not shown here)

1 x Keithley 2400 SMU

1 x Keithley 2510 TEC SMU

HP 4263B (LCR Meter)

HP 33120A ARB 15MHz

Tektronix CSA7404 with pair of P7380 probes  TCA-1MEGTCA-1MEG some P6245's

Tektronix TLA714 with TLA7AA4 and set of probes (P6810, 2 x P6860, some mictor adapters, etc)

EDC MV106 DC Voltage standard (+-30ppm)

Few selfmade LM399 and Linear LTZ1000 stable references

ESI DB52 decade resistor

ERSA ICON1 soldering iron

Bunch of Vishay Precision Group 0.2ppm resistors for testing/calibration.

Well I was brave enough to share my junk LAB way back so here is the new and improved version and through the door to the right is my workstation (A little messy) Yes thats a PI 2 on the desk with full…

Hi Illya, Wow, What a beautiful concentration of precision. It looks like you have a variety of projects in the works too. I have recently up graded my shop area in the basement. It is always a work in…

I'd like to see this at the Smithsonian (among a lot of other things, natch). They've recreated Ralph Baer's home workshop as an exhibition, and his original Brown Box console prototypes are there too…

They are expensive but cant be beat, and if you consider that for 0$$$ extra they will make what ever value you want so if you need sa a 1.23456K, that will cost the same as a standard 1K and the temo co of these resistors means you can almost forget about worring about it, if you can survive it, the resistor will still be at the correct value pretty much

I am amazed about how well these metal foil resistors perform (Providing you dont abuse them)

This lighting system is a dramatical improvement!!! Not only a question of intensity but also the lighting quality and the diffuse light reduce the shades, especially when working on small parts, circuits etc. image

    Good solution. Enrico

Totally agree about the homemade bench. I rarely find what I'm looking for off-the-shelf, so knocking one up is the way to go.

Don't want to go off on too much of a tangent, but my home office has a homemade desk. Kinda, anyway. It's an old Ikea desk, cut in two, with one piece mounted on top of the other and re-covered with laminate flooring! All stuff I already had, and repurposed to make something just a little bit awesome in the small space available image

    image

I'm also a big believer in setting the right tone for a room's purpose. I feel like it helps your creativity enormously, and switches it on the moment you walk in (that's how I justify buying cool collectible stuff that has little functional purpose!). Like my cool homemade wall art:

    image

And my handmade Luke Skywalker lightsaber prop replica (all the same parts they used at Elstree when making the props, and put together before the days of eBay):

    image

And this one-armed bandit, rescued from a chip shop in Glasgow and lovingly restored (entirely mechanical, and an amazing feat of engineering when you look inside!), all watched over by a Monkey sock monkey (which my wife made image):

      imageimage

Okay, that's all totally off topic, but I'll aim to get some photos of my wife's studio (she's a fashion designer) that I hijack for all my projects! It's an amazing space.

Yeah I've had some Daylights in my  Lab/Office for 15 years and good lighting makes a big difference. I was thinking of getting some of the Chinese LED panels, what kind of efficacy lm/W are you getting from those you've installed. Also what is the stated CRI ?
