A clamp type of ammeter is useful, if you can apply one, as a drop in the rated power usually indicates a hot spot and a likely failure in the near future. Very useful for flow solder baths with two sets of elements, if one has already failed and not been noticed, the second one going creates a very large lump of solder with dead elements inside to trya and change.
