need help on analog circuitry and sensors

Former Member

Hi,

I'm looking to start a project for monitoring the health of a river. My goal is to set up a system where I can monitor sever points along the water, testing for pH levels and dissolved oxygen levels. I'v been programming for a long time now, but I am new to dealing with analog circuity, and sensors. Does any one have any experience with these (passive) probes and how did you design your analog circuitry?

Thanks

Jason

I'm afraid I can't add anything to help you out here (probably good, since it's a two year old question anyway). But that said, I've been kicking around the idea of building some sort of pool water multi-sensor thing, so I could get an e-mail every morning (for instance) that would report on various levels, including Ph, in the water. I'm not having a whole lot of luck finding sensors though, so I'm curious if and how this project progressed?

    Thanks!

    ~JT

I'm interested in building a pool monitor with text message or email connectivity, too.

Here is one commercial product that provides pH, chlorine, and temperature monitoring.  Data is sent to an indoor receiver, which apparently forwards to email or cell phone.  Does anyone know how accurate the data is from this device?

You can put a large, reliable, rugged pH and oxygen sensor as quantity of liquid is not a problem. The sensor will be interfaced to S/H then ADC, Micro-controller then DAC, For fast response the sensor internal resistance must be as small as possible to reduce the RC time constant. Temperature compensation is a very important aspect in this case. Please, let me know if you need more details or the kind of experience I have,
