Test and Measurement Feedback

piezotech

I'd like to get some feedback from fellow engineers: what kind of informational, entertaining, or educational content (blog posts, white papers, downloads, videos) would you like to find on the internet surrounding the subject of test and measurement?  Is there anything in particular you've never been able to find that would be helpful, or simply intriguing?  Any subjects that are of interest?  Any formats that seem to be lacking in the engineering space?

What is the intention of your request, the reason I ask is because the answer is so extensive, I would not know where to start, if we understand the reason for asking such an open question we can help better, also knowing a bit of your background in engineering would help us to not set you up with an impossible task

    Regards

    Peter

Well, I help out on the marketing side of our engineering department and a big part of that is providing quality non-commercial information and educational content that other engineers/product managers would be interested in reading.  While our regular marketing department typically focuses on commercializing our product, this would be purely academic - a way of giving back to the engineering community and helping to facilitate [non-commercial, non-salesy] discussion around the technology.  But to do this, I need to get an idea of what the engineering community would be interested in learning about testing and measurement in any industry, particularly as it relates to using and improving sensors.

How about this for starters. One of the things I see repeatedly messed up is taking sensitive readings due to a lack of understanding of Measurement Burden affecting the reading. It does not matter if it is a scope, a multimeter or an isolation amp, or safety barrier, they all effect the reading (The old saying, to Observe is to affect) and new comers especially get this wrong, so some info and education around this would be excellent, if i think of other topics ill be sure to let you know

    Thanks

    Peter.

I'm always hunting for interesting case studies to share with students. Ideally I like ones that are written in a problem-based format so that we can approach them as a mini exercise in problem based learning. It's good to have all the technical and scientific detail to explore from within an engaging real-world scenario. For example there's been some great discussion around the Rosetta spectrometer recently. Anything like this that's current and likely to spark the student's imagination.
