Okay, before anyone advises me to buy a real multimeter, here's a full disclosure: I own a military-grade Fluke 27 and it works perfectly.
Now, with that out of the way...
I just snagged one of those free Harbor Freight multimeters (brand and description are in the subject) and I am actually charmed by the thing, but there's one missing piece: no audible connectivity. It can test connectivity, but unlike my Fluke it does not give me a nice "beeeeeep" when I have a connection. If I had to guess, I'd say 80% or more of my multimeter use is testing connections so this is a bit of an inconvenience.
This seems like something that would be easy to change, but I know better than to assume it actually is easy. Folks out there have hacked these little multimeters to do all kinds of stuff but I have not yet seen anyone add a basic piezo speaker. Too hard? Too easy/boring? I can't say.
If anyone out there has done this and can offer hints, or if anyone has seen websites that describe the process, I'd love to hear about it.
Thanks!
