If you’re a Star Trek fan like Pascal vd Heiden it would only seem ’logical’ that you would want an LCARS(Library Computer Access/Retrieval System) interface like the ones used on the Enterprise. The technical programmer from the Netherlands created the interface using a touch screen computer and programming that he hardcoded for his own preferences. With the system he can browse the internet, check train schedules, and play media. Too bad it’s not something we could download, however iPad user can download a Trek style app called 'LCARS internet media reader' for $4.99 from iTunes. A video of Pascal’s creation:
I have a particular interest in HMI/GUI devices. I suppose it has something to do with the carpel tunnel looming from years of keyboard/mouse use. I think it is about time we interface easier. Especially one computers meant for real work. For now, this is a novelty, but I hope it inspires the next way we interface with our computers.
