Digilent OpenScope Discontinued

ntewinkel
ntewinkel over 3 years ago

Hi All,

I was about to test / learn how to use my new portable oscilloscope today, so I thought I'd pull out my Digilent OpenScope too, to see if I can learn something about it as well.

I've had it for a while but never had a chance to actually use it. I think when I first had it I ran into some issues getting it going, so that might be why I shelved it, but I don't recall.

So I went to their website to find a getting-started tutorial and grab whatever software I need, and they have a big notice saying the product has been discontinued Disappointed

Is this a recent thing? From what I can find there's no real announcement anywhere and the last thing I see is from last June indicating they just added a new distributor.

From their website: https://digilent.com/reference/test-and-measurement/openscope-mz/start
"Unfortunately, we are unable to fix many of the issues, so we have made the difficult decision to pull both products..."

Cheers,
-Nico

A quick check from digikey EOL notification shows that the discontinuance announced back in March 10th, 2021 https://media.digikey.com/pdf/PCNs/Digilent/EOLD1-03082021.pdf The product was given pretty…

    Hi Nico,

I recall they dropped support a very long time ago, almost immediately (within the year I reckon, but not sure) after releasing it : ( The reason felt strange back then too, I remember being skeptical that they didn't have the resources to either build and test a product before releasing it, or resolve the issues. I hope the remaining firmware and software on that site works ok?

I RoadTested the Digilent OpenLogger which is the sister product that has the same message.  I gave it the only poor review I've given on a RoadTest product.  I tried interacting on their forum and with their representative and although they responded there was no action on the issues I raised.  The firmware would freeze, give spurious results, and not all functions worked properly.

The product was given pretty good review in Element14 RoadTest Review compared to its competitor product during that time whereby it is the only product that comes with WiFi feature - /products/roadtest/rv/roadtest_reviews/243/openscope_mz_develop_1

It is pretty sad to see such budget development kit disappear in the market.

Thanks all, for the quick replies and extra info.

I think I will just file it under random outdated hardware to be used artistically later Stuck out tongue closed eyes

ps, Looks like the announcement I thought was last June was actually from the year before, and was “updated” last June. Thinking I hate it when they don’t properly timestamp time sensitive announcements Laughing

It looks like they have new products that are very similar, so it probably didn’t make economic sense to keep selling and supporting the $100 open source version.

look for “analog discovery” and “digital discovery”
