Rigol power supply DP832: make multiple channel on/off (track set) permanent?

Jan Cumps
Jan Cumps over 2 years ago

I have a Rigol power supply: DP832A. Two of the channels can be set to track each other. If you change one channel's voltage, the tracked channel changes too.

There's an additional option: to make the two channels switch on-and-off together. It's accessible via Utility -> System -> 2/2 -> track set -> On/Off.
This will set On/Off sync to on or off.

Problem
Now the question: when the instrument is switched off, it forgets this setting. Is there an option to persist it?
I have put the Power On option to Last: that means that settings (should be) are persisted. It keeps set voltages, limits. But not this setting, it seems.

Depends on the supply - I've never used a Rigol, but I do know some supplies refuse to store/restore certain settings on start-up (e.g. R&S) to avoid potentially damaging DUTs, while other (Keysight) are happy to restore even channel on/off state.

I would probably try to store settings and restore settings to see if that even stores the track/link feature. If it does, then at least that may be a little more convenient. Then maybe see if there is a load preset/settings on start-up (which is how Keysight usually does it). If not, then you're probably out of luck and will need to beg Rigol for a fix.

There are presets, and it can startup with the last settings.

This particular option doesn't seem to stick though.

FWIW, I have an earlier DP831 with firmware 1.14. I just checked and Track stays enabled through a power cycle.

Thanks for checking, michaelkellett and baldengineer.
I'll first try this again, with a fresh look. With other firmware if I can get a hold of it.
If it fails, I'll post a video of what I do and what I see happening ...

A think a video would help. Maybe a step getting lost in translation.

Video, showing that the button-sync option does not persist. (firmware: 00.01.14)

    How to replicate:

Utility -> System -> Power On: Last
Press Utility to leave the menu

    Utility -> System -> 2/2 -> Track Set -> On/Of: Enable
Press Utility to leave the menu

    select channel 1, Track On

switch chanel 1 or 2 On or Off, and the two channels switch On and Off together

    Power cycle, then check

Utility -> System -> 2/2 -> Track Set -> On/Of: it's back to Disable, did not persist. Buttons don't switch both channels in Track mode

Ah okay! I had a feeling you were doing an extra step that I missed.

I did not know about the "on/off sync!" I've only used the All On/Off on mine.

Sadly, just like yours, On/Off Sync is disabled on power-up. Disappointed
