Does anyone have any experience with the FNIRSI®︎ SAG-55 Intelligent 550W Hot Air Gun?

I have a few tools from the FNIRSI product line (including the DSO-TC2, FNB58 and recently the LCR-ST1).  I have generally found these devices to be pretty good and very affordable.  Recently I have been teased on Facebook with a new product, the FNIRSI SAG-55, an Intelligent 550W Hot Air Gun. They are currently offering this item for $44.99 (USD) which seems very affordable.  While the cost is great, I would hate to buy it and have it melt down in my hand or just end up in the trash, so I thought I would hit pause and ask my friends here if they have any experience with this item.

Any thoughts?  Thank you in advance for your opinions.

Looking forward to hearing how it goes! I've been watching the video on their website just now ( https://www.fnirsi.com/products/sag-55 it's the bottom-most video in that scrollable list of images/videos…

Hi Gene, Nice find! I've no knowledge of it, but like you say, FNIRSI stuff can be of decent quality. I purchased a FNIRSI meter which I've yet to use, but build quality was great. Hard to know if…

Hi! no, I'm fairly sure it's a color LCD (not-so-great view at a sideways angle, but fine dead-on, and not bad when it is tilted forward or away). Display contrast and brightness is just average (fine indoors, but I bet it's inadequate outside, although I've not tried it outdoors yet). But I like the resolution, and menu is OK-ish to use, although I wish manufacturers would either use more buttons, or have soft-buttons around the screen, rather than the implementation they did.

anniel747 I used to be such a Fluke fanboy.  And then... I bought a number of Fluke 289 meters for work.  Despite my best efforts, Fluke never owned up to the shoddy workmanship of poor soldering of the IR transmitter in the lead detection circuit.  They lost a ton of credibility and product loyalty by not correcting this defect in workmanship.  After many years on the shelf, I fixed six of them that I still had.  Each one took about 20 minutes to repair - all in.

I built a passive load a few years ago. It was mainly intended for audio amplifier power supplies but its done a few other things as well.

10 x 50W 100R resistors switched by relays and 10/22/47 switched in by a big MOSFET. (The 10R is a 200W resistor but not heat-sunk enough for continuous operation).

The bank of 100R resistors is well enough cooled for continuous operation at 400W.

I built this because of my uncertainty about the interaction between active loads and the DUT when doing high power transient testing - but its far less convenient to use and limited in the load steps it can apply.

So far it hasn't started any fires. Slight smile

That looks superb. Quite a significant difference in construction quality compared to the wood effort : ) And that steel chassis looks excellent!

I regretted the small size once I was committed to squeezing it all in !

    The box came from RS.

I just saw an ad for IPS3608 - a 285W power supply from the same manufacturer at an attractive price, but with some interesting features.. seems to support real-time charts but there's not much info (I couldn't find a proper datasheet or user manual).

Maybe it's intended for mobile phone repair shops, because there are some USB-centric features (and mobile phone repair shops are a target market for the manufacturer from what I can tell).

Anyway, not enough detail for me to buy it (and am not in the market for a PSU currently unless I get rid of one or two), but hopefully more info will appear later.
