Learning about power

So I apologize in advance I'm a noob when it comes to any of this. So I helped my wife with a school project about wind turbines. She really only had to talk about the concept of them so we didn't need to get to deep into the project. We built sort of a proof of concept for it which was a dc motor with an airplane blade connected to a multimeter. We put a fan in front of it and said look it generates power. She got a good grade all good. Well now my interest is sparked and I have a few questions.

First step I'm trying to understands how much power this is generating

I attached a few picture of the reading from it with the fan on high. So if i'm understanding it right it looks to be 3v. I really don't understand how the amps are read.

second can I power something with it like an LED

Still learning this website and don't know if I'm posting  in the right place please let me know.

Thank you to you both. The website is a great source for information and is very helpful. DAB I will try that out and post back my results. can't wait.

Nice simple project to learn from.

As Douglas identified, you need to put the generator under load.

You can hook up a resistor and diode, or just a resistor.

If you use a 1k ohm resistor and still measure 3.1 volts across the output, then you should measure 3.1 milli amps.  I = V/R

Power is VI, which is about 9 milli watts.

You can just adjust the resistor value to see if the generator will still supply 3.1 volts at higher currents.

There is a lot you can learn.
