Cool Tools To Giveaway for a Blog Review

rscasny
rscasny over 7 years ago

I kind of figured that anyone who considers him or herself a maker has a toolbox or a bench of tools they treasure. When I did technical work, I had my big tool box and a briefcase of my go-to tools, including a multimeter, driver set, sockets, extender magnet, etc. These were my cool tools. What are yours?

We are launching a cool tools campaign at element14 where we roadtest and giveaway some tools we think are pretty cool.

Cool Tools Giveaway for a Blog Review

Would you like to get any of these tools, play around with them, and write a blog review? I'm looking for a few members who are really into tools to do the reviews. Below are the tools I have to offer. If you are interested, drop me a line in the comments below. Tell me about your cool tools and persuade me to send you off any of these tools. And all you need to do for it is write a blog review on element14.

I started with 'making'(tearing down) stuff at a tender age and have gone through a lot of stuff. Unfortunately, I lost a big chunk of my tools in a burglary years ago and am left with only a large hammer…

My favorite tools are the ones that I have performed modifications on. When you twist a tool to your own purposes you make a special bond with it. Here are three of the tools which I have modified to do…

Who's got the time to check this one out and write a blog?

I got it on my desk right now. It's in  compact carrying case. Quite a few driver heads. Nice clasp for clipping onto your tool belt. The tool case pivots out for easy access. The rachet is small. So this is for tight spots.

Well, I was going to say me, but 14rhb beat me to it image. I own a couple of Wera Kraftform screwdrivers sets (Lasertip and Micro), and the Joker Combination wrenches (metricmetric and imperialimperial), all I can say is, Wera makes fantastic tools.

It's hard for me to say which ones are my most useful tools -I like many of them- but, since we are in an electronics collaboration community, these are my most used ones for my projects in this matter:

    image

    • Engineer PA-14 Wire Stripper: very clean and precise for thin wires.
    • Engineer PA-09 Micro Connector Crimpers
    • Hakko CHP-170 micro cutter: I use them for wires, pins and also to clean 3d-printed parts
    • Tweezers mostly for SMD work and soldering: Hozan P-89 self-closing tweezers, Goot standard precision tweezers TS-10 and Goot eagle-break precision tweezers TS-15
    • Measuring: Mitutoyo 950-300 pocket steel ruleMitutoyo 950-300 pocket steel rule and Mitutoyo 531-128 high accuracy caliper: both have Metric and Imperial graduations
    • OLFA Cushion Grip Knife (AK-4): used mostly for deburring 3d printed parts and custom-made PCBs. Used also for SMD work -to clean/move excess of solder paste-.
    • 1 mL Industrial Syringes with 18G x 1-1/2" Blunt Tip: for SMD work are very good, very little force required, small tip and only need to take just a small amount of solder paste out of the fridge.
    • Tamiya Basic File Set: used for custom-made PCB -yes I use OSH Park- and 3d printed parts.
    • Wera Kraftform Lasertip and Micro screwdrivers

    Luis,

You missed one of the most useful items, the cutting surface the tools are on.  8^)  Gordon

    Hello Gordon,

Nice catch, that cutting surface is seen in most of my pictures and videos but, actually I left it out on purpose image, the list was already long.

    Hi Luis!

    Nice set of tools!

The PA-09 is quite functional, but there is a cheaper tool (at least in the UK) and I reckon better too, the HT-225DHT-225D.

Although the PA-09 works, I find that the pins stick inside the tool after crimping, and require a lot of force (sometimes bending the part : ( to pull it out. Maybe I'm too heavy-handed with it.

Also, two crimp operations are needed, for the conductor and the insulator, which slows things down.

The  HT-225DHT-225D does the conductor and insulator all in one go and the part doesn't stick or get bent Also it is more easier and comfortable to use(because of ratchet and fatter handles

I've done maybe 1000 crimps with the  HT-225DHT-225D now and it has been very reliable with consistent results If you use the PA-09 a lot then I recommend giving the  HT-225DHT-225D a go I think you'll be really pleased

    Hello Shabaz,

You are absolutely right!. I have the very same issues with my PA-09. I think it works for me because fits all the common sizes of crimping pins I regularly use and kinda got used to its weakness, but definitely will be trying in the future another option like the one you've suggested.
