    Hi Daniel,

I received reply from our supplier as shown below.

    It should be
no problem to transmit data through USB from Tenma 72-8720 to computers, you
can copy the computer interface software and protocol from below link.
unluckily factory hasn’t solution for mobile phone App yet.

    Thank you,
    Devinder Sohal,

    Farnell technical,

Just in case anyone has the same hard time as i did to figure out how to integrate the meter into my app, here is a link for the usb chip manufacturer with source code and a demo app:

    Hi dsohal,

I am interested in this issue. Did you manage to find any documentation on how to get the 72-8720 to start transmitting data through the usb? I noticed that the official application applies some sort of starting procedure but i cannot find out which steps are involved. From my app i can capture the usb data correctly but only when the official app started the connection. Could you help me on this?

    thanks!

    Hi Sohal,

What I want to do is the inverse of what you suggest, I want to use the RS232 Output of the DVM the USB functions well but the RS232 do not put any information on the signal lines. I want to use the RS232 because the USB driver needed to use in my own software does not work nice. So I need : or a good USB driver accessible from .NET in c# or to be able to use the RS232.

With the software provided by Tenma (or UNI-T) the USB works fine but via the RS232 I don't get response as well.

    Hi Jean,

I do not think you can switch between USB and RS232, due different voltage or you can use RS232 to USB converter, our o/c 175-6306, USB to RS232 converter.

I have send request to  manufacturer and I let you know, what is their suggestion.

    Thank you,

    Regards,

    Best,

How can be switched between RS232 and USB? When connecting the USB in combination with the software I can capture my results. When connecting a RS232 cable nothing appears on the pin 2 nor on pin 3 of the Sub-D.

    Greets,

    Jean PAul

We are currently considering purchasing this DMM for use in an automated test system. However, the provided protocol description seems somewhat lacking.

Could you elaborate on the data format?
