    Hi,

    Maybe you already discovered but this is what I can mention you.

    The Intel 8255 is a Programmable Peripheral Interface: parallel port chip.

    You might find one in old PCs like PC/XT with 8008, 8080A, 8086 or 8088 processors (1986-ish...).

    According to Wikipedia these were also used in Z80 systems.

    I don't think the 8255 was ever available except in a 40 pin package (I don't know if ANYTHING was available in a 26 pin package!)  A more modern equivalent is the CMOS version: the 82C55; this is still a very old chip, and  modern vendors (Farnell/Newark included) don't seem to have stock, but some of the vendors with more history in the hobbyist market seem to still have them (both Digikey and JameCo claim to be able to ship immediately.)

    Hi,

    The 8255 was indeed a parallel port for Intel and came in a 40 pin DIP package.  Yes I do have some and they may still work.  There was a serial port chip, the 8251 which was 24 pins in the same era.

    There were a bunch of micro-controllers in that era that combined a 8085 MCU with integrated serial I/O and parallel I/O, but most of them were 40 pin packages.  If you can clarify your requirements, I might be able to find you both chips and pinouts.

    Thanks,

    DAB

    Hi WestfW,

    82C55 has the same functionality?

    If so. Then for dukevam: please check the Farnell site for possible solutions:

    INTERSIL - CP82C55A-5ZCP82C55A-5Z - PERIPHERAL INTERFACE, 82C55, DIP40 - Ordercode: 1018159;

    INTERSIL - CP82C55AZCP82C55AZ - PERIPHERAL INTERFACE, 82C55, DIP40 - Ordercode: 1018158;

    INTERSIL - IP82C55AZIP82C55AZ - IC, PROGRAMMABLE CMOS INTERFACE - Ordercode: 1562050.
