Dear Wireless Power Challenge Participants,

 

effective immediately Würth Elektronik's has released for you our new brand new round shaped wireless charging coils for the QI A10 and A11 standard. I know you have requested such more space saving coils before. The stock is available at We and you can order the coils via samples from Christian DeFeo.

Those coils are right now exclusively available for you and within the next 2-3 weeks they will be also available at Farnell to buy.

    Can we use these coils with the existing transmitter circuit or do we need to redesign?

    I think as long as the inductance matches the one from the existing coil (6.3µH) you should be fine. Anything else might mean to replace the capacitors on the transmitter board to get a proper matching.

    My biggest concern would be how to remove the existing coil from the transmitter board without destroying it (to be able to use it again).

    I think I will try some of the new coils, just the provea another german saying: 'wer misst misst mist' image

    (and maybe I can get a bigger transmission range with them as well...)

    I seem to recall a TI datasheet which (from memory) suggested the distance is proportional to the size of the coil.

    ie the bigger the coil the greater the distance and still maintain acceptable coupling.

     

    I'll do some digging and see if I can find it.
