Zigbee...ginner "Zigbee or not Zigbee" that is the question...

My question is so stupid i am ashamed to post it but it is too late. My intention is to add voice fonction and perhaps low quality vidéo to a portable product. Can Zigbee be (lol) the right product? What will be the range with a short antenna or even a long one? 100 meters ?

Hello, I'm afraid zigbee is not suitable for video but maybe control application doesn't need high speed. Zigbee is low cost low power wireless networking standard and the speed rate is not so high: 250 kbit/s per channel in the 2.4 GHz band, 40 kbit/s per channel in the 915 MHz band, and 20 kbit/s in the 868 MHz band. So you may consider what speed you in this application, do you mean that real time vedio transmit or just for downloading data?  Also the transmission range you should consider it: transmission range is between 10 and 75 meter (33 and 246 feet) and up to 1500 meters.

Beside, the antenna size is according to the operating frequency. In general antenna size decreases with increase in frequency, and the antenna size could be similar to the wave length or longer or shorter, depend on the type and performance of the antenna. For Zigbee, the antenna size could be several mm to hundred mm, you can choose PCB antenna, chip antenna or whip antenna for you design.

Thanks for your quick reply and i think i will spend a little more of your time. What will be the best technology for me?

I really need to transmit real time images at low quality as a small webcam from a GSM for example. For the speed

it can be ok even with a little lag. When you say "up to 1500 meters" it is huge and very tempting. Do you have an example of

    realization? .

Does this design use to apply CCTV system or something like that?

If it use to do that, maybe you can choose bluetooth if you don't need long range.

No, Bluetooth didn't have a long range so you need to set up a network by using bluetooth
