This video will show you how to build a bat detector. The bat detector works as a heterodyne receiver that can shift frequencies in the ultrasonic range to range the humans can hear. Using an ultrasonic microphone, you can tune the device to the frequency your bats are using for echo location. As each species uses a different frequency, you could be able to identity the species you are listening to. You can build your own detector, using good old fashion electronics without the use of microcontrollers or sound processing.
