Enhancing a Magnifying Headband with Auto Sensing Light -- Episode 585

Do you often use a illuminated magnification headband? Do you get annoyed that you need to turn it off and on when looking away from your work? This project contains 2 solutions, a basic tilt sensor option that can be added in minutes, and a more complex distance detecting circuit which will change the illumination depending on how far away the object you are looking at is.

    Thanks, it hard to find the culprit further than "something under the epoxy blob", by bypassing the switch circuit which has the auto power off and other stuff hidden under expoxy, the problem is resolved…

    Would a FET on the output of the "COB blob" create a low impedance switch under control of the blob?

    Thanks, it hard to find the culprit further than "something under the epoxy blob", by bypassing the switch circuit which has the auto power off and other stuff hidden under expoxy, the problem is resolved. Its a pain to not use the nice moulded switch, but I may see if I can do the same circuit in the same shape and size myself to fit in there, or if I can get a very similar latching switch to sit in the same gap.

    Those are cool. I've got some small desk lights on mini gorillapods, which are handy for lighting up the desktop, but sometimes its good to have light that directs to where you are looking, and has the ability to be used away from the desk, without moving everything (Like looking at something that's still inside it's case)

    Those goosenecks are super cheap and look really useful however, so I may pick up a few for some table top lights I've got that always fall over on their little stands (The light weighs loads more than the stands that are supposed to balance on, the lightest touch and they tend to fall over)

    Thats good to know, I hadn't delved into the data sheet for the SAMD21 registers.
    It doesn't actually reset however, comms between the board the the PC, and the sensor and the board stay up throughout, just a slight power fluctuation visible on the LED.
    Bypassing the built in switch and power controller board that was in the visor seems to fix the problem, not so pretty when you have to change original components out like that, and removes the auto power off, but it's not a big issue

    Yes, that seems to fix the issue. I was hoping to keep the original switch, but changing it definitely helps, probably because it then bypasses the circuit under the epoxy blob. Downsides to this is there is no auto power off, although I guess I could add it again.

    ah yea, it is messy, good spot. Doesn't seem to cause an issue, but I should probably sort that out and make it "nice"

    I've used the Dado kits in the past in conjunction with Matthews scissor clamps to suspend the likes of small IP cameras and stuff from false ceiling grids.

    It looks a little bit like a longer version of the gooseneck mount for an AKG C747 mini shotgun mic.
