Deoxit is a unique electrical contact cleaning. Not only does it break up surface-level oxidation and flush it away, but it also protects against future oxidation! There are many variations and ways to apply it. This video explains what DeoxIT from CAIG Laboratories does, how to use it, and which you should pick.

The DeoxIT® D5 Sprays continue to be available in both the Perfect Straw and the Low-Medium-High (LMH) adjustable valve. When you are at the bench, the LMH may be a good choice. When you are in the field, under a vehicle, on a flight line or up a utility pole, don’t worry about using/losing a straw and use the integrated Perfect Straw.

I still use an eraser to clean off dirt and oxides from flat surfaces. One of those white rectangular erasers.

Nice show.

I had not used any cleaners for a long time, so it was good to see what is out there now.

FYI, back in the old days, I saw my PDP-11 maintenance person using a pencil eraser on the board connectors.

It worked quite well and solved a lot of issues when the computer became fussy.

You know, if I was thinking on my feet, I would have asked about that. It was one of the last things that come up in our conversation and I just thought "okay, got it."

(This is James thoughts, not CAIG's.) The process they kept bringing up is that the DeoxIT material gets "between the metal and oxidation." So, I can imagine it doing the same with a thin varnish. It'll help remove it from a metal surface. So maybe if there is varnish on a metallic surface. But I don't suspect it would be destructive to wood varnish.

Does the no varnish rule mean it can be used to strip varnish?

Totally random trivia. While recording the voice-over, I started stumbling on "DeoxIT." I kept saying "Deoxtic." Listen closely, ironically, near the beginning. Once you hear it, you cannot unhear it!

Eventually, I figured out if I enunciated the name as "dee OX it," it would come out right. I laughed when I made that discovery because that's pretty much how it is spelled on the bottle. ;)

Anyway, like I said in the video, I've used this stuff for a long time. It's always a pleasure to do these vendor-focused videos on products I already use myself.

Thanks again to CAIG, especially Mike, who answered all of my ridiculous questions. Sometimes twice.
