Booting the Yún

As mentioned it the demo video and Enchanted Objects Design Challenge - And they all lived happily ever after the Arduino Yún takes a long time to boot. I did notice that there's a bit of a difference between different file systems on the SDA. I also collected together some links in my research which give ideas on speeding up this process.

One tool that might help is BootChart that gathers some stats and presents them as a chart, as with a lot of things on the Arduino Yún this is for standard Linux so might not work for the Yún platform.

The slow booting is annoying when you're making a video. But in the big scheme of things, where your device will be on for months, it may not be that significant. The analysis tool is cool. I get around…

I found it on Google, I believe it is generic Linux

In my case getting the weather takes about 3s, then it gets shut down again. I believe there are various sleep and hibernate options for Linux bit again it's finding one that works for the Yún / SAM

The analysis tool is cool. I get around on the linux and unix command line reasonably well as a developer, but for system tuning and insight I prefer something visible.

I'm terrible at maintaining and administering machines. So for me this type of utility is helpful.

Found it too. The charting method is very interesting, I should check if it works on the Raspberry. Then I have also downloaded the sources; the idea I was searching for something is to use the logging / capture mechanism of this tool at this very low level (I see that it is set as a Grub/Lilo standard booting alternative) to track the booting process. Not only to make a graph but to give to the master PI the ability to know what's happening to the other networked units.

Andy, very interesting this method. Please can you give more information about this booth-checker ? Is for Yun only?

    Thank you. Enrico
