Regenerating LICs - manufacurer's opinion (do not)

Hello!

For clarity I have asked manufacturer's support if there is something than end user can do to restore hybrid capacitors that have arrived short-curcuited and they stated that "altrough there may be methods to regenerate them, it is typically not advisable to do it for commercial or safety reasons" and risk of failure or reduced performance can be high and it is usually safer and more reliable to replace them.

So I understand that the case is not hopeless but the manufacturer is not advising it for serious use cases

Google was super-helpful! Perhaps this could work..

Hmmm, interesting, sounds like something we might try to verify in the road test.... "safety reasons" may need a bit more clarity...

It is not limited to LIC. I tried short charged 25F EDLC (DSF256Q3R0) by thin wire of 1/8W THT resistor and when I was slowly attaching wire there were visible arc flash, small smoke and wire get very hot.

One manufacture will include a connector on their hybrid LiCs (which sound more like a super battery than a super capacitor)

I miss the days I could buy CR2032 for pennies...

But distributors will loosely toss these into a baggie... ( I should order 2 to see how they are shipped) lol

Well, ironically, a very good short (i.e. good contact, thick wire of low resistance) would likely not develop enough heat to burn the lead ... this probably happened because of a "poor" short ...

I happily cyclically shorted my supercapacitors under "controlled" conditions with peak currents exceeding 30A in one case and no harm done to the leads.  What’s Super about Supercapacitors? – Part 6: Solar LoRaWAN PM Sensor, Low-Temps, Imbalance, Cyclic & Short Circuit Life, LED Blinker
