Enclosure IP rating confusion

JWx
JWx over 2 years ago

Hello!

after briefly studying enclosure datasheet I have found something strange: it is described as IP68 (NEMA 4, 4X, 6, 6P, 12, 13), but PDF provided

www.farnell.com/.../2239464.pdf

states only: NEMA 4, 4X

in addition, family description from manufacturer's site:

https://www.hammfg.com/electronics/small-case/plastic/1554

states that this family is "NEMA Type 4, 4X, 6, 6P, 12 & 13", "Except 1554/55 V size which is 4,4X only"

as there are a few part numbers with V inside (VGY, VALGY, VAGY, VBGY) I wonder if our enclosure (1554VA2GYCL) can be considered IP68 or NEMA4X (so no submersion allowed)?

I had a little chat with a Hammond Technical Product Specialist. She confirmed that our enclosure meets IP68.

I saw that also. I had planned on a submersion test, but submersion is not required for my application. I would expect that since most of the enclosures have an IP68 rating, that it should meet the temporary…

I think the statement that V size is only rated for Nema 4 (IP65) applies to this enclosure. I will be using it in an immersion application anyway and hopefully  taking enough precautions to ensure the project works. (a minor leak won't cause failure) It should be interesting to see how well it performs.
