When is a project finished?

I am asking myself this question because at this point, I have a working prototype but in that process I have also come to some conclusions.

 

In terms of finished, I have completed the window frame, connected my security camera and demonstrated the project working. Based on the conclusions below, this particular project is completed but opens doors for a more advanced project.

 

In reaching this end point, the following conclusions have become apparent:

 

1. That in order to appear natural, a much higher resolution source is required, which would also require a 4K monitor and a PI able to drive it.

2. A 32" TV is too small to be a convincing window, unless it was in perhaps a small prison cell

3. This concept has merit beyond creating a fake window. Windows with embedded lcd films in them could be used to provide someone on the 24th floor of a tower with a view of a park, rather than another building.

    , you dont give yourself enough credit. You designed several great iterations of the PCBs, all the software related to implementing SCPI interface etc (All I did was the C# test app). I may have provided the initial designs that the analog DAC/ADC/Feedback stuff but you have lead the show for the last few years.

     

    I would say your name deserves to be on the PCB etc, not mine, and you deserve most of the credit.

    For me too, that's not a threshold either, although it's nice to get feedback from time to time of course.

    Some people don't immediately know what is/will be interesting to them or not : )

    I'm on a Linux mailer (a regional one), and I frequently hear from the grapevine "what is this hardware stuff Shabaz is discussing, why is it on this mailer.. I want off this mailer I thought it was a Linux mailer, and this isn't Linux!". Sometimes one has to walk someone down a road to let them see the relevance to computing and Linux (despite it sometimes seeming obvious). And also reminds me that despite the best efforts in the world with title creation and first photo/sentences, it can still switch off a percentage of people who should in theory be part of the target audience : (  (Admittedly I have not tried a title like "Free money and Linux", that might work : )

    I second that Doug.  Also, your thresholds are pretty much the same as mine when I come to think about it.

    For me all 4 done thresholds need to be satisfied before I totally pack it in.

    Any of the 4 pause thresholds could cause a pause.

    Any of the 8 go thresholds could cause a go.

     

    Your projects are all superb references and a great addition to element14 content. I usually glance through them with various levels of diligence depending on the subject matter, and I try to make a mental note to dig into them in more detail when I have a similar application. It is invaluable that the extra detail is there when you need it.
