We the team of “Chiraharita”  (Evergreen in sanskrit) thank element 14, Silicon labs and Würth Elektronik for choosing our proposal for the vertical farming design challenge.

Currently, the team has started off with the design of mechanical structure. We are preparing the CAD models and verifying for the best design. The team is also working on procurement of PVC components as well as manufacturing the structure.

We will be adopting a 3 stage plant growth mechanism:

  1. Seed treatment stage.
  2. Germination stage to grow seeds into saplings.
  3. And finally, the matured saplings will be transferred to the cylindrical farm.

Aeroponics is supposed to be the most efficient technique to deliver nutrients and water to plants. But we will be implementing hydroponics technique since it is less complex compared to aeroponics. However, we will be designing a structure which can operate with either of the techniques.

Congratulations to all the other challengers and All the best.

In the next post, we will explain about the germination stage and basic block diagram of working of our farm.

Stay tuned.

We clearly understand that the content in this blog is a little less. The specification will be described in one of the blogs to give you people an exactly idea as to what it is. The team would like to employ its own solutions so it demands we test out things before we put a post regarding it. The title of the blog will be changed as suggested.

Thank you for your suggestions. Do follow our posts.

The details about, is the seed germination phase required is not clear. We decided this stage would require a different support due to which it was created as the seeds are sprouting.

    Hello Kowshik,

    Welcome to the fray.

It sounds like your team is making progress. There's a great bunch of folks here so don't hesitate to ask for help and advice if you need it. image

    Cheers,

    Rick

    Hi Kowshik,

There is not a lot of information here, don't forget you need high quality (in terms of content) blog posts ideally, otherwise the competition may win!

Could you explain a bit more about what your cylindrical farm proposal is? (We have not seen your proposal remember). Perhaps show some images/diagrams that you might

have used in the proposal - takes no time. Or a photo of the environment where it will be installed.

Also, you might want to change the blog post title to something more interesting, e.g. "Cylindrical Farm - An introduction - blog 1" so people see it as interesting in the activity feed to read.

Finally, we're not all experts, and although we can use Google, a quick 1-line explaining the difference between aeroponics and hydroponics (or URLs - there are tools in the editor so

you can add them in like this hydroponics link) could be interesting to allow people to want to follow up.

These are just suggestions (because I want to see everyone in with a fair chance of winning this challenge) from a reader's perspective, and just a personal opinion.
