So, I am working on finishing up a new blog about how my plant choice will affect the design and finishing my design, which will be posted as soon as I find out what plant I can use. Right now, I am hoping to choose peas, pak choi, or leafy greens. As a sidenote, I did not find any letter in the package about plant choice. I will give a brief description of my top picks. Number one being they all grow well in aquaponic systems and number two they all do not require too much sunlight.(A big plus because this project is indoors and I don't want to buy a sun lamp because that would kind of cheat the purpose of being solar-powered. So indoor lighting is truly a last resort.) I am thinking about using the top floor of the house(to maximize my houses' sunlight) for the vertical farm, so I might have to come up with a cooling system to deal with the scorching heat. I kind of want to try a vegetable that is compact, but also has a lot of problems in the outside world(especially pests) as an indoor vertical farm would be able to avoid these problem and stand out more. Right now, I am leaning towards lettuce because it has a larger market of the three. (http://supplementsos.com/nutrition-stats/most-consumed-foods/most-eaten-vegetables-usa/)
Also, lettuce requires less sunlight and when crowded outside attracts weeds and pests. (Not a problem with my farm because there is no soil) Unfourtunately, I will have to worry about the temperature of the top floor, which I checked with the new Puck sensor to be about 90-100 degrees, so I will put my solution for this problem later, but I will most likely have to have a mini-AC unit in each level unless I get something else planned. Luckily, the flip side is I can get a reliable 25k lux when the sun hit the window. (The window faces east so that's half a day of full light) The pump logistics will take me a whole day to figure out though and at least some sunlight will be lost as the light passes through the glass. Today going to work a bit on the other blog, and then experiment with Simplicity Studios.(SS sounds to spy-like)
