I'd use this kit to learn linux, tinker around with the GPIO possibilities and, when I have enough knowledge to know what I'm doing, make a portable Raspberry Pi Linux computer !

I Would use this in my main tv since my current Media center takes up a lot of space , I used a lot of scrap parts to put this "half a laptop" together

I'm new to electronics and simple place to start is with the raspberry pie and learn how to script in python and how to deal with command prompt and farther in the future i would like to try to make some of cool things you make in your show like the pi mame, retro computer, pi shop cam and definitely hooking up a pi to my car. This raspberry pi can really help to start my career in electronics  and though their is a small chance of me being one of the ten winners out of 500, it was definitely worth 10 minutes of my time .Thanks for the opportunity.

Lord I hate to say it, but I hope this guy wins over me, however, I think Ben should help build this one.

I know... how about a jukebox!  I would make it look as retro as possible, with a turn table and an arm that selects a vinyl "45" and puts it on the turn-table and the whole show -- but that's all it would be -- a show, completely fake.  The music would really be coming from MP3 files on the PI.  The PI will control all of the mechanics as well as receive song selection from number and letter labeled push buttons -- just like the real thing!  There will even be a "scratchy" sound as the "needle" finds it's way into the "groove", and then when the song is over, clicks and pops as the arm bounces against the center label a couple of times before the mechanical arm retrieves the vinyl and re-shelves it -- again all smoke and mirrors and MP3 files.

And, how about a kind of futuristic steam-punk where the jukebox looks retro, but when the song starts playing, a music video is displayed on the glass [transparent OLED display?] -- that would be so COOL!

In fact, the song choices could also be displayed on the transparent screen!

With this I will repurpose one of my other less powerful Pis to a new automation project.  Creating an API to turn on and off my pond filter, pond UV light and walk way lighting.  A common problem I've ran into is the boxed light timers for lawn lights which are mechanical have a tendency to break after a year or they rarely keep accurate time, it would be nice to have it based on sunset times rather than a floating (time of day).  The model B+ is overkill for this project but would be better suited to replace my media server - freeing up my model A.  I already have a nice setup in which I could put an inline junction box housing the relay switches and 24v light power source.

I would set it up on the spare TV for my kids to watch all of their shows that I have archived on my Plex server. It would free up the TV for my wife and I to finally get caught up on the 3 years of shows we have missed out on because we aren't allowed to use our own TV. image
