I am trying to build the thinest 360 laptop ever!

After getting some help from darkuncle33, I have began to draw up plans for the thinest xbox 360 laptop to date.  Hist is under 2 inches and I have the ambition to get it under 1.5 inches.  My goal is to get it to 1 inch but I will settle for 1.5 inches.  It will require heavy modding and I may not finish for a while due to school, but I will hopefully have it done by november and I plan to sell it when I finish.  This will be a 15 inch model making it extremley small.  But I need some input:  I have the wireing for Jtagin a slim should I jtag a xbox 360 laptop?  Also obviously the thinner i go we are going to start losing port so I think i will have 2 USB optical hdmi and external monitor inputs.  The hardest part will be the dvd drive as I have no idea what I can shave off of it.  The heatsink I can work with or even make my own.  If you guys have any sugestions please tell.  Finally I will be documenting the entire process via live streams and youtube videos, I will figure that out later though.  Thanks for any help!

Notes:

No CNC will be used only the shop tools I have.

I plan to use Aluminum.  I thought about acrylic but decided not to as when you dremel it the stuff melts and you do not get clean cuts.

Also tell me what a fair price you would pay as I would want to sell it so I could make another one for myself.

--Price if it is under 1 inch and price it is 1.5 inches.

Good luck. You have my email, if I can help let me know. I am doing a thinner one but 1.75" is as thin as I am going to try. that one will be for me because it will take so much work that i will never get enough my selling it to cover the labor. I have the mobo ready but like you the dvd drive is going to be trouble.  I think I may have it I will let you know if it works.

Yeah there would be no way to sell this as no one would pay the like 4000 it would cost to build.  I have no idea if it will work but I am still going to try it my wind up that I can only make it about 1.75 inches thick.  As for the dvd drive it is going to be very hard to slim it down.

Yeah the dvd drive there is no wqay to make it skinnier without tons of labor so I am just going to make it as skinng as i can with the dvd drive.  Also mine is a 15.4 inch monitor which is going to be a pain in the butt trying to cram everything in there especially because the driver board for the monitor is about 6x3 inches.  If anyone has any smaller 20pin driver boards for a coby monitor let me know where to get one. (the screen is lg, i think Coby and LG are the same company)

I have an idea, you could (if the xbox 360 dvd drive is like the computer drives) disassemble just the metal frame around the drive and you would still have all the components in the plastic housing that you could easily cut a bit more and making it a bit thinner, or you could conplitli disassemble the drive from the housing, glue/bolt the laser mount and make the drive in the pelican xbox 360 laptop, that would be a bit risky BUT it would make it the thinner possivel.

Well when you take it apart there is really nothing else to shave off of it that I can see without major and I mean major mods to it.  I guess I will have to just settle for a 2 inch laptiop image

You're right, but as i sad you could also gleu/bolt just the laser mount with the motor on the case and make it open up like in ben's pelican xbox 360 laptop, and is the thinner it can get, but as you it would need a serious mod, but if you do it right, you could make 1,5/1,75 inches.

Make the CD drive optional and external. I often do not use the drive anyway. My XBOX is often just a NETFLIXBOX. Also, downloaded games do not require a drive.

If you need help making parts, let me know. I can help.

when I did my build  I took the dvd drive apart and hacked it up trying to make it thinner. i put a slot loader on it. but I trashed the drive and the idea because I was looking a weeks and weeks of tweeking and testing to get it to work correctly.

Also, the xbox will not start if it dosn't detect the dvd drive. Not all games are downloadable, so to start the game you would have to have the dvd drive plugged in and the disk in it, even if you installed it to the HDD.

I was thinkihng about the no dvd drive but that is good info knowing it wont start, but could you have a jumper wire or something my problem is that my screen is 15.4 inches and the driver board is 9x3 I need one off the internet that is smaller but idk where to get it.  I have start making the frame from aluminum and i plan to cover it in a carbon fiber sticker I found on the internet.
