Challenge: Securing Pet door

Ben,

I have two cats. I have recently acquired three racoons.

 

The Racoons are coming through the cat door into my house.

I need to stop this

Some sort of motorized, RFID gizmo should work. I am not to the level where I could build this yet. Yet I need a solution quickly.

 

Please accept so I can live Racoon free. Shooting them is not an option since I live in city limits.

    I have lived far from the city for all of my life, have had many problems with all sorts of wildlife. the majority of them have been solved with non technology related solutions.

     

    I'd suggest humane traps, or lethal means. since at least one of these is not an option, the rfid collar is an good solution. beyond wiring it up the programming is nothing more than a simple "if, then" this should be easy. many open hardware vendors supply everything needed for an RFID solution, and some even have sample code you can copy and paste.

     

    an other option is Coyote urine. many smaller creatures will avoid it.
