Sensor to detect Human Presence

gunaseelan
gunaseelan over 11 years ago

Hello BEN,

Is there any sensor to detect human presence . Am aware of PIR (Passive Infra Red) sensor , which would human motion but not the human presence . Another way is by using image processing technique. Kindly suggest me a better solution image .

Thanks.

There are 4 main technologies that can meet these requirements - ultrasonic, video, radar, and lidar. You can find many commercial systems based on these technologies, including wireless versions. Search…

I would use a kinect since it has IR(can't be used for human tracking) but in the light itwill work nicelyimage

There are numerous ways to detect people, and they all have benefits and drawbacks. If you explain more about the scenario where you need to detect a person, it would help narrow down the choices. For example capacitance could be used at very low cost, but it has a limited range and could detect other things if they are present. However, if the location is known within a couple of feet and it can only be occupied by a single human at a time, capacitance might work well.

Omron make a thermal sensor that can be used to detect stationary warm bodies.

    http://uk.farnell.com/omron-electronic-components/d6t-8l-06/sensor-thermal-5-50-deg-c-62-8/dp/2217999

One of the applications is human presence detection in building management systems.

Possibly combine it with a PIR or other motion sensor to screen out warm spots that never move (heating pipes, Electronics etc).

You could also try to just use a camera and use face recognition software...

Another method is to sniff for CO2.

you think that that small amount of CO2 is measurable? I think it that that depends on the space were you are (langer is harder to 'sniff').

I know that they use CO2 sensing in my SO's office (big fortune 500) building to dynamically configure HVAC setpoints.  A bigger room can also hold more people.
