In this special live stream event The Ben Heck Team asks community members for help fixing a rare Nintendo PlayStation prototype. In a previous episode of 'The Ben Heck Show' Terry and Dan Diebold presented the team with the prototype, thought to be the only one left in existence, so they could do a teardown and fix it.  Now the team is asking for help from the community as they attempt to make history!

Elon Musk perfume, cat-filtered coffee beans and whale vomit... ... This is officially the best tech stream I've seen.

I noticed the drive managed to display the TOC when Ben tilted it up.

Maybe you can remove the round spindle magnet from the center of the topmost metal cover and lock the disc down with the bare tray/cover off, that way you will be able to observe how the red laser dot focuses during spin-up.

Also you might wanna inspect whether there is radial and tangential skew adjustment mechanisms inside the assembly.

Last but not least, check if there's a haze on the optical lens, as the intensity of the laser diode itself may have worn out over the years.

That sounds awesome! I hope this isn't all too challenging, a lot of the issues seem to revolve around the disc drive, and having to reverse engineer the driver or communications between the CD and system could be quite tasking. Best bet is documentation of Sony CD-Roms of the exact same era, and how that might fit into the SNES architecture against the actual prototype itself. Worst comes to worst, copying the circuit design from the prototype and printing a new one with fresh parts could add a lot of insight into where all the possible points of error are. That can be quite time consuming. I hope there's a simpler solution!

There is no current plan to edit this footage, no. Since Ben has his hands on the console for a few weeks, he is working on it between other projects, and that footage will get edited and released later.

It was easier for the team to keep track of comments and replies to pass along to Ben.
