One clock just wasn’t enough for Lorraine’s next build. After creating the gigantic RGB LED clock in a previous element14 video, she went on and created another clock as a gift for a friend. Watch as Lorraine chooses the electronic board to code the clocks with and add extra functionality: buttons to control a stopwatch and international time zones.

Nice build. I would not have gone with the Pico, too many unknowns about it. Overall, you managed to make everything work. I have found that you can always look back on a project and realize you could…

You could perhaps add a MSF 60kHz receiver/decoder to your design and use that to automatically set and keep the RTC in sync with the 'atomic clock' (for precision exercise timing ). DCF77 is another choice…

lorrainbow  Awesome job!  I'm glad that you went with the Pico.  I've finally received mine and I hope to use your code to learn more how to use the Pico.  I'm also thrilled that you used the microbit - especially the radio function.  Playing with that has been on my To Do list for a while and I just haven't made it a priority.  I'll definitely be copying some code from that one as well.

And then... my happy train crashed and burst into flames. image  My beloved Arduino...  I had to pause the video and collect myself. imageimage

Not using the Arduino or the Pi actually makes sense.  They're mature platforms and the RTC solutions are all over the internet.

The real time versus Lorraine time was hilarious!  Again, great job.

    Hi Mike,

Thanks for all the lovely comments.

Yeah, I just didn't start with Arduino... So I'm a built spoilt when it comes to choosing boards.

I love the radio on the microbit! It's one the proper wow features of such a cheap friendly board that I feel is overlooked!

I hope you tag me in whatever you make!
