    Nice ! Perhaps could move the unused front wheel sensor onto the chainwheel so as you can get a readout of cadence (crank RPM) alongside speed ? Perhaps add a 'change up' / 'change down' alert if the cadence…

    That looks interesting, the problem with distance travelled is it doesn't always equate to work you put in to travel that distance, so being able to gauge the work you've put in would be really cool.

    I was watching this presentation from Analog Devices about a bicycle power meter and thought it may be of interest as a possible enhancement to this project.

    At first, I thought they were going to using a custom crank with built-in strain gauge, but instead they have attached a couple of strain gauges to an existing crank.

    Yes, the main idea is that I pick a project then I modify it by code and shape, however he wants it so there is a detailed tutorial on how to make that project work. 
    afterword I would modify things like the 3D case, or the internal code (like adding more features to the speedometer) he still wants to it be kind of identical to the original project however with minor modifications.

    (the goal being to replicate a project "make it work" then modify it in different ways) This is to guarantee that you have a working project work off from then modify it. 

    The idea of me using a different display would be great however I have no guarantee of it working, like If I do not get the parts to work together that would be a big issue as I may not have anyone to get help from (as I'm not the best at coding) then I would not pass the project. So it would be risky to use something which isn't in the original project, furthermore I would have to also convince my teacher how I can change the part and code it to work (which I'm not sure of).

    In the meantime I'm defiantly going to have a look at the smaller display you used and see if I would be able to figure out how to use it with this project.

    If it's for a school project then modifying the code to use a different screen is probably what the teacher would want.
    I guess it's a project to show your electronics/coding, so the ability to modify something from another person would probably get you more marks than just following the instructions to make the project.

    The other cost saving modification I can think of would be to drop the LCD screen and change the project to display the speed and/or distance travelled on a set of 7 segment displays,
    or yyou could use a much cheaper little oled screen (I've used a nice little one in a recent project, a MIDAS Graphic OLED, 128 x 32 Pixel size.     You would need to modify the case design to fit the screen you pick though as they are all rectangular options

    Thank you for the reply, I'm currently adding all the project costs together and it's adding up to $225 USD (delivered to my school) so im not sure on what to do as this is out of budget, the most expensive part being the 4D systems Display,

    Hi, this sounds like a great school project.
    You could use a screen like that instead, however, the dimensions on the 3D print files may need to be changed to fit the alternative part, and more importantly the code would need a rewrite to work with that screen.
    I used the 4D systems screen workshop software to configure the screen, and translate the values passed to it to the graphics displayed, but this wouldn't work with that screen. I've never used that particular screen, so I couldn't tell you how easy it would be to display the information either.

    Hello I'm doing this as a school project, would it be possible to use this display instead https://a.co/d/h9Gr9c7 (GC9A01 Driver SPI Interface for Arduino) ? this one is much more affordable and accessible, if possible to use it how would I be able to integrate it?
