One mans trash is a makers trasure! Clem found a super8 camera in the trash, and soon relized that the original analog films and the processing is crazy expensive nowadays. So he creates adrop in replacement for the film cartridge that turns the super8 camera into a digital one! But that is easier said than done!     yes, but you need it to compensate the focal distance and sensor widht inside the camera. without the original lens you can´t see anything. it is extended to nearly it´s maximum.

    Hi! I know this is an older video but I was wondering if you've made any progress. I want to try something like this out in my school engineering class as old super 8 camera are inexpensive and I like the retro look. Also, is there any hope for a commercial kit or product in the future as mentioned in the video?

    Well I haven't done any new version YET.

    but with the advent of the RPI high quality camera and the Compute module 4 it might be worth trying out this concept again.

    So you might see another version in 2021, but I bet you'd like to make it abit faster, so I'd say why not try it out yourself, the files are there and you might be able to improve code and usability. So dont wait for me and start rightaway.

    as for commercial version...that could also be a future possibility but I focused/focus currently on new projects for element14presents, but revisiting the super 8 cam is on my list.

    Do you think the Pi zero would be viable for this application? I like the idea of the small size to leave more room for a battery, and the lower power use, but is it not powerful enough for this project? Hopefully I'll be able to start working on it soon!

    I didn ot use the pi zero because of its performance and non standard camera connector.

    Especially with the HQ camera I would not use a pi-zero, but a 3 A+ or p4 /Compute module 4

    on power use the pi zero is only  low in current draw because of its low usage not efficiancy. if you are concerned with power and size but are willing to put in the time in code you might want to check out the pocket beagle.

    in general the beaglbone family uses less power and delivers capable processing but its not as easy to use/implement.
