Variable resistor with display

craigst

I want a way to have a variable resistor it's a digital display and maybe a way to see resistance as well the reason is cars use resistance for sensors all over Mainly I want to use led's but dam warning lights , error free lights well nothing works I been adding different resistors to try trick the ECU and variable resistor with display will tell me what resistor I need

Is there sumink I can buy ? Or I can build

    Hi Craig,

Sorry, I am having a hard time understanding what you are looking for. Are you looking for a variable resistor that you can use for an input to the computer in place of a sensor? Even if I have your question correct there would still be more information needed and there may be situations where the sensor itself isn't resistive.

Sorry I Wana make a standalone tool that uses a variable resistor to 2 points allowing me to connect in between a wires to add resistance to it to identify what resistor I need to add , and little 2 line display or something to show the resistance I'm creating

Use is for led car head light as my van requires a resistance to make it then bulb is ok , but I can't get light bulb warning light off till I get correct resistance

It's simple and could just use a variable resistor in between it but rather make a tool I can use in my job

I guess it's just a tool the emulates resistance and tells me how my resistance it's giving can find any tools like that just for a 5v to 12v maybe 24v

A digital one of these , although this would work same

Look at this on eBay  http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/262823608556

Sounds like you're trying to fool your CANBUS into thinking it has a filament lamp installed and  of an LED.

You can actually purchase CANBUS compatible lights that don't flag an issue on the warning system.

I'll assume you've checked the legality of installing non-standard vehicle lights for your locality.

That's a decade resistance box, you switch in resistors to give a combined overall resistance that you require - the value obtained is decoded from the switch positions.

A quick 'google' (other search engines are available) of "Digital Resistance Box" turned up some inexplicable pictures of safes and also this (and other examples).

It's an option, but you'd need to use it a fair bit to possibly justify the extra cost / effort over a standard  decade resistance box!

you are right but my van aint liking it error free led still flags the error yes my service van fits all laws but i have flashing side lights 2 modes, error free but causes cambus error  , my cree full beam cause no error  ( standard not error free) very strange

Digital Resistance Box looks like what i want i will keep a look out for one, most bmw and Mercedes 2.1 oms is the sweet spot but mine just want to be awkward
