Hi Chris, I agree with the comments above too, there's quite a fair chance it could be the PSU. I too saw the same symptom (brief start-up, many LEDs flickering, and then nothing) when I used a new Samsung…

The lights by the ethernet port should start blinking.

    First things I'd check:

    • Amp rating of your power supply (2.5 or greater)
    • Unplug the fan and see if it boots
    • Try it with an SD card image and without the SD installed.

    phoenixcomm , a few questions:

Where is the fan connected to?

What type of USB port are you plugging the BeagleBone AI into? Is it a dedicated power supply, or a personal computer?

If it's a personal computer, what standard of USB is it? (2 or 3?)
Are you booting from the onboard eMMC or an SDCard?

I went to the Beagle bone  site and downloaded a fresh image. Then I booted with no problems. Then go into the browser (Chrome) and entered 192.168.7.2 to get Cloud 9. It takes several minutes to get to that point. BTW, you should get at least 2.5 AMP supply. The official Raspberry Pi 4 adaptor from MicroCenter works great!

cstanton Its plugged into the USBA type 3 on my motherboard.  and I am using a type 3 USBA to USBC

I am booting from the onboard eMMC.

And I do not have the fan powered up.

I assume there is an image on the eMMC memory.

cstanton I have no SD card so I am booting from the onboard image.

and I have the USBA  to USBC type 3 cable plugged into the blue USB connectors on the back of the cpu.

Do you know what version of USB 3 your motherboard supports?  The original USB 3.0 only provides 900 mA, so it's only 4.5 watts, probably not enough to run the BB AI.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB_3.0#Power_and_charging

From your short video, the LEDs briefly light up like a normal beaglebone, then stop. It could be it starts booting but then needs more amps and doesn't get them.

Some USB 3 ports can deliver a lot more power, but only if it meets the "power delivery spec".

    Hi Chris,

I agree with the comments above too, there's quite a fair chance it could be the PSU. I too saw the same symptom (brief start-up, many LEDs flickering, and then nothing) when I used a new Samsung charger. Swapped over to an official Pi PSU from Farnell/Newark (I used a Pi 3 5.1V 2.5A supply, but the Pi 4 5.1V 3A supply would be the better choice) and then it worked.
