I guess the suggestion box moved here so I will reiterate one idea I mentioned earlier and add one: - a classroom demonstration of some physics phenomenon ( jc2048 had some good ideas ) - a solar powered…

Keeping with July and (northern hemisphere) Summer time, I like Douglas' ideas. Demonstration of physical phenomenon for classroom is a great avenue, I was thinking lots of solar stuff. Charging systems…

It would be interesting to see if someone else could make a better version of a RetroPie gaming console in an Altoids tin. While the Adafruit display fit inside of the Altoids tin, the buttons that are located under the display are not necessary. One limitation of my original design was that the audio was provided by a USB speaker. It was my intention to put a small speaker inside the Altoids tin but I ran into some issues with creating an audio output for the speaker.

I've seen mini USB speakers that would fit in a (second) Altoids tin.

Or I have purchased replacement cell phone speakers which are much smaller - two could be run from one of those class D amps that is less than a square inch and 3.4 mm high.

Thank you for the suggestion. I just found an I2S 3W Class D Amplifier Breakout at Adafruit that will work. It has a built in DAC and will fit in the tin with a small speaker.  https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-max98357-i2s-class-d-mono-amp/overview

There is another method of getting audio from the GPIO. https://learn.adafruit.com/adding-basic-audio-ouput-to-raspberry-pi-zero

I might try the I2S Class D amp and a small speaker. If I do make a second version I might also use a small NTSC/PAL TFT Display wired to the video pins on the Pi Zero instead of the Adafruit PiTFT I used before. Thank you again for the suggestion. The Class D Amp, I2S DAC, and small speaker would be a great solution.

Got this little st of Sony speakers that came from a Sony walkman phone.  Nice little set run off a headphone but a small mp would make them so much better. Sound quality is incredibly good for their size. image
