Project14 | Winners Announcement: Auto Hacks!

Congratulations to  for Enable Raspberry Pi CAN with an Arduino Shield!   You are the grand prize winner and you win a $200 shopping cart.   

Congratulations to  for Automated car marshal,   for Pantomime - Gestures to actions for disability aid and more , and  for The Smart Road of Jan the Van!   You are the first place winners and a $100 shopping cart.

The Auto Hacks competition involved any projects involving automobiles. Your project could use an IR sensor for backup assistance; involve installing a backup camera that allows for rotation left and right; making a garage precision parking system; involve using camera/machine vision to detect lane lines and alert on inadvertent lane change (hint, tie into the blinker circuit); or your project can involve experiments or projects related to CAN-Bus. It could also involve adding modern conveniences to a slightly older (or older) car.   

Prior to the Auto Hacks competition  did a webinar, PYNQ-Z2 Workshop: Session 3: FPGA Design Examples in Practice from his van project.   His co-presenter was  who would be the eventual Grand Prize winner of the Auto Hacks competition.   As a way to encourage more participation for the Auto Hacks competition, and against his reservations, I encouraged  to submit his project in Project14 in support of the Auto Hacks competition.   As it turned out,  his van project did inspire a member to enter our Build a Present competition.    did a fantastic job with camper van project and its listed below as an honorable mention below.   The other winners of the Auto Hacks competition did equally worthy projects:  with his Automated car marshal and for Pantomime - Gestures to actions for disability aid and more.   This is actually the second Auto Hacks competition we've done here on the community.   Some years back we also did an Auto Hacks competition that focused specifically on the Arduino CAN Shield:  Winners Announcement: Auto Hacks and Beyond: Show Us How You Would Use the Arduino MKR WiFi 1010 Board and CAN Shield!

    Here are the 3 soldering tips.

    1 XNT 1S conical, long, 0.2 mm 
    One of the finest available for my iron. This will be used exceptionally for very fine work. It has virtually no mass, can't heat up a hand solder pad.

    XNT C chissel,  3.2mm

    The complete opposite of the one above. The heftiest option for my iron, with big thermal capacity. For headers, power transistors with backplane, for shoveling SMDs off the PCB

    XNT GW1 gull wing, 1.8 mm

    For drag soldering. You can't spot the little reservoir, because it's filled with the solder applied on the production line to prevent oxidation

    3 non-typical options for my iron, a Weller WXP 65. My workhorse is an XNT A, a smaller chisel. This is the one that came with the iron, a good default choice I think.
    I have another conical (XNT 1,  0.5 mm) and sloped (XNT4, 1.2 mm).
