The following webinar is now available On Demand:
AMD 7 Series FPGAs and SoCs Live On
Back in November 2022, AMD announced that all 7 Series FPGAs and SoCs would have their lifecycle extended through at least 2035. While this is great news for anyone who already has 7 Series in their existing products, you may be wondering if it makes sense to start new designs with 7 Series. Yes! Absolutely! This webinar will show where 7 Series provides the most optimal value and performance in your designs, contrasting this with some of the newer families like Artix UltraScale+ and Zynq UltraScale+.

Q&A:
There were a lot of great questions asked. As promised here are some of the ones we could not get to during the event:
What is the lead time on 7 series boards? Can you comment on the latest supply chain status (availability and lead time)?
During COVID there was some delivery issues but things gets back on track. Boards are on stock now and lead times getting better. https://www.xilinx.com/products/boards-and-kits/cost-optimized-design.html
I noticed you highlighted the small Zynq 7000 devices. Can I still use the larger devices, like the 7Z030 in a new design if I want?
Yes, sure, you can consider US+ for an overlap with the 7 series
Are Vitis and Vivado available for windows and linux?
Yes, All the 7 series are supported in the free Vivado/Vitis tools
We've noticed that Ultrascale parts seem to be more expensive than the corresponding Ultrascale+ Should Ultrascale be avoided for new designs?
UltraScale is still recommended for new designs however UltraScale+ is better than UltraScale for certain applications
Which mechanism Zynq UltraScale+ use for remote firmware upgrade specifically for embedded Cortex-A53 cores ?
Multiboot mechanism. For more information please refer to https://docs.xilinx.com/r/2020.2-English/ug1137-zynq-ultrascale-mpsoc-swdev/Fallback-and-MultiBoot-Flow
Does Zynq UltraScale version support LPDDR4?
Yes, on the PS and both the ZUBoard and Ultra96-v2 support LPDDR4
Any use cases for Higher DSP slices?
Please refer to https://www.xilinx.com/video/fpga/7-series-dsp-resources.html for more information
On US+ FPGA, what processor IPs are available?
MicroBlaze soft processor
Will Zynq 7000 & Kintex 7 be offered with lead (Pb) BGA balls? (ie. non RoHas)
No, BGA Component Reballing services can help with this
Does Zynq 7000 Soc always need heat sink or fan?
It's application dependent
Whats the cheapest Ultrascale+ trainer for students, preferably has Arm hardcores and their price?
ZU board with Arm Cortex A53 and R5 and it is $159
Any notes on compatibility of 3rd party board definition files made for older Vivado releases with current Vivado releases?
Any board definition that was made for Vivado 2015 and beyond will be compatible with the current Vivado
Do you have any resources with respect to computer vision?
Please refer to High-Performance Machine Vision Systems Using Xilinx 7 Series Technology white paper https://docs.xilinx.com/v/u/en-US/wp453-machine-vision
Are there any plans to add new features in future versions of Vivado for the 7 series?
No, It's not on our road map currently
Are 7 series safe to be used in safety rated applications? like critical components in safety of car?
Yes, please relate to the functional safety webpage for more information https://www.xilinx.com/products/technology/functional-safety.html#overview
Do AMD has plans to offer their free tools in a cloud environment, so that it's easy to develop, test?
You can use Vivado Design Suite with AWS https://www.xilinx.com/products/design-tools/acceleration-zone/ef-vivado-sdx-vu9p-op-fl-nl.html
Does the Zynq A9 have single or double floating point hardware support?
Yes, It has both single and double precision vector floating point
Do you have a demo board/implementation of the RISC-V?
Digilent has a Risc-V processor example on Arty A7 board https://digilent.com/reference/programmable-logic/arty-a7/arty_a7_100_risc_v/start
Will Zynq7 & Kintex7 be available in automotive grade?
Yes, Zynq 7000 and Kintex 7 are currently available in automotive speed grade https://www.xilinx.com/support/documents/selection-guides/xa-portfolio-product-selection-guide.pdf
Would you recommend a ZedBoard as prototyping platform?
Yes, Zedboard is one of many boards that has Z7020 and has a lot of examples as it's been around for a long time.
