More Channels in Less Space: New Trends in Highly Integrated DACs

How a Highly Integrated Quad Channel Analog output module with Adaptive power management Solves the space demand problem in factory automation

Trends in the factory automation space demand that designers fit more channels in a smaller space. This means that systems are getting more dense, designers have to manage the system thermals better due to the need for high reliability, and efficiency is extremely important. This TI design addresses some of these key challenges by using a highly integrated quad channel 4-20mA and voltage output DAC with integrated adaptive power management. In addition, we will also discuss a reference design used to pass IEC61000-4 suite of tests.

This quad-channel, analog output module delivers voltage and current outputs using the highly integrated DAC8775 digital-to-analog converter (DAC). Integrated adaptive power management, along with the LM5166 buck converter, reduces the total power dissipation of the reference design to less than 1 W, even when driving all four channels at 20 mA simultaneously.
