Eagle libraries

Former Member
Former Member over 11 years ago

I would like to learn more about how to find specific components and in which libraries to find them.  I know you can create your own components and Libraries, but for now I only use common components, which most likely are already created and stored in a library somewhere.

The problem is that it takes time to browse through libraries trying to find where the component is that I am looking for.

I think the pointy-pin designator Dean is looking for could be achieved by checking the "xref" button in the label info field. When you do that it puts the label inside that shape, and you can rotate it…

I use the search box in EAGLE when you add the part. It is near-instantaneous.

For example, if you're looking for a BC547 transistor, search for:

    BC547*

    or

    *547*

    etc..

That works if you are using a part already on your computer, but if you want to find a part you don't have it can be very difficult to find it on the internet because they tend to be buried in library and schematic files.

Sorry, but I wouldn't trust a part on the free, public Internet.. who would? And more to the point, who should?

I trust some simple parts in EAGLE because I've used them before.

All other parts I create myself, to meet my needs.

If there is a particular, trusted library from a third party, it can be placed inside the EAGLE library folder.

And then, the Find feature in EAGLE works very well - it is near instantaneous and finds my parts and EAGLE standard parts, and any trusted third party.

I didn't say I trust parts I find on the internet.  I always thoroughly check them for accuracy.  I find it faster and less tedious than making the part myself.
