Winners Announced: We're Giving Away Up to 10 Arty-S7 Boards to Use in an Upcoming Xilinx Workshop!

We're Giving Away Up to 10 Boards for Our Upcoming Arty-S7 Workshop!

In the Comments Below: Let Us Know Why You Are Interested in the Upcoming Arty 7 Workshop for a Chance to Win!

If you're a maker or an engineer who's interested in getting into FPGA, we're making it easier than ever to get started.  We're following up the Getting Started with Xilinx Development Tools webinar and the 3 part Xilinx Workshop: Getting to Know Vivado Series with Adam Taylor with a workshop that let's you use a board compatible with Vivado for your next project. The Arty S7 board features the new Xilinx Spartan-7 FPGA and is the latest member of the Arty FPGA development board family from Digilent. The Arty S7 board features new Xilinx Spartan-7 FPGA and is the latest member of the Arty family for Makers and Hobbyists.  This little dev board is something that we think you will be interested, especially if you've attended our previous Xillinx workshops. It hits a sweet spot of having a relatively low cost ($99 USD) and enough power and connectivity be very useful.

There's been a lot of interest in the Vivado Workshop series and Xilinx webinars in general.  We're interested in why you're interested in attending the upcoming workshop and how you plan on using the board.  Reply in the comments below to register your interest so we can arrange to have an Arty 7 board sent to you in time to follow along with our workshop!  You can also purchase an Arty-S7 board as well as the other PMOD Board here:

The Spartan-7 FPGA offers the most size, performance, and cost-conscious design engineered with the latest technologies from Xilinx and is fully compatible with Vivado Design Suite versions 2017.3 and newer. Putting this FPGA in the Arty form factor provides users with a wide variety of I/O and expansion options. Use the dual row ArduinoRegistered connectors to mount one of the hundreds of hardware compatible shields available, or use the Pmod ports with Digilent's pre-made Pmod IP blocks for a more streamlined design experience. Arty S7 was designed to be MicroBlaze ready and comes out of the box ready to use with the free Xilinx WebPack licensing with the Vivado Design Suite.

Here's a good primer that shows you all the cool things you can do with Arty-S7 board:

It's not so much a hobbyist thing - most are happy with ready made boards. I have had many clients who could not stand the add on cost of using BGA packages in the early stages of a project. And also quite…

It's nice that Xilinx are promoting the Spartan7 and design tools, and nice that E14/Farnell are involved - but they are missing a very important trick. The Spartan 7 processors are reasonably cheap in…

is spartan 7 supported by vitis ? anyway, i would think spartan 7 is better suited for signal level application like motor control

@Fred, I don't agree with you. Spartan-7 is not as powerful as Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoCs devices but it does have DSP blocks and programmable logic which can be used in some edge AI application such as voice recognition, etc. We may not use full FP32 neural network model on Spartan-7, but with quantized network and model optimization, AI is definitely doable on Spartan-7 devices.

For those mentioning Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Computer Vision, etc. it's probably worth knowing that the Spartan-7 device on this board is probably not the right one for those sort of applications. The Arty-S7 is however a good board to get you looking at programmable logic and the Xilinx ecosystem. It's a great first step into that world, but you'll need to move onto it's bigger brothers for heavier workloads.

I've got a quite old project idea I never had chance to implement - I'd like to implement some open audio coding standard used for speech and to experiment with feature extraction models (pre-processing for speech recognition algorithms, speech detection etc.).

In the past time I worked mainly with microcontrollers but I read a lot of books about fpgas and how they work. Since I have no expirience with the series 7 devices and the vivado suite this course and board would be great.

I watched a lot of seminars with Adam Taylor on FPGA boards, very good seminars but unfortunately I did not have the opportunity to try all this in practice. I have a cheap Chinese board based on Altera Cyclone IV, which is very good for beginners, it is especially good to emulate old processors (8086, 6502, Z80, etc.) on it. But as the level and experience of my knowledge increases, I want to try something more (artificial intelligence, computer vision). I would really appreciate it if the Element14 community could provide me with this board.

I'm an engineering student and would really like to learn FPGA in detail from start. It's a bit tough to get a good FPGA board and learn it for me. I'm excited for the workshop.

As a master's degree student on embedded system i would like to explore more in depth the fpga topic since during the lessons they only introduced us on the theoretical architecture of fpga and basic vhdl/verilog synthesis (using Vivado).

This giveaway could be my chance of exploring more in depth a field i like (and in which i would like to work in the future) and improve my skills.

Also as an hobbyist i found this kind of board very suitable for a large number of application and could fit perfectly in some of my projects, i would like to put it under test as a logic analyzer and as an hardware accelerator in my raspberry pi/iot project.

Having theory and practical knowledge of FPGA from the college level has been the only connection for me with FPGA.

I never got a chance to put my hands on FPGA afterwards. Mainly due to resource constraints.

However, e14 is making a really great effort to bring FPGA to the common people.

tariq.ahmad, if I win the giveaway, this would be a great chance for me to have this in-depth hands-on experience with the modules and start incorporating them into my projects.

Even if I am not given a board, I am planning to attend this Xilinx workshop, not only to brush up my FPGA knowledge but to improve my skill set in this area.

I hope this workshop will be more practical centric compared to the previous Xilinx Vivado workshop.
