For youtube content creators, videos longer than 10 min allow them to include ads in the middle of the video (and thus potential for more revenue). Also, the longer the people are engaged in watching a video, the more it's favored by the youtube algorithm. So yeah, it is sad that youtube is getting flooded with unnecessary long videos. Those things are explained in a recent article on the Verge.

For me, podcasts would be ideal when I'm doing something at work that doesn't require a great deal of mental agility.

About 1.4x seems about right to me. I'm so used to watching Pluralsight videos slightly speeded up  that you get used to it. Sometimes if you listen to one - especially someone familiar - it sounds like something's wrong. Then you realise you've not changed the speed yet.

Ha, I thought it was only me who listened to them at 1.5x. 

It depends.  Talking about something can be informative.  But what has really helped me learn is the web site format where people describe what their doing, and also post pictures, charts, graphs, to explain it all.

I agree. I heard that this is because of monetization of the content. More commercials can be placed in longer videos, resulting in more revenue.

It's an awesome idea, and it would be keeping us fit+healthy too, running around while listening : )

I like webinars too, because they are information-rich. It's youtube videos that are a slow delivery often : ( I nearly always listen to them at 1.5x or sometimes 2x speed as a result. Some videos use up tens of minutes to get one minute of useful information out of it : (

I like the way you've implemented the podcasts in Business of Engineering - ie. you can speed up playback and you can download. Thus thumbs up from me.

If looking for improvements it would be handy to also include some sort of outline with times to allow you to jump to particular areas of interest (find this helpful when returning back to a podcast). E.g.

00:00 intro

02:00 discussion of xxx

05:30 discussion of yyy

etc.

I am not a big fan of podcasts, so it would depend upon the subject and who you have participating.
